New York Asset Management Firm Names Chief Executive

New York-headquartered W P Stewart & Co, the global asset management firm, has named Michael Maquet as chief executive. Maquet joins other members of the firm’s senior management team, which includes Mark Phelps, president and managing director within global investments, and James Tierney, managing director and chief investment officer . The firm had not confirmed who Maquet replaces as CEO at the time of publication.

US Private Equity Houses Buy 50 Per Cent Stake In Major Spanish Asset Manager

US private equity firms Warburg Pincus and General Atlantic have agreed to buy a 50 per cent stake in the asset management arm of Santander, Spain’s largest bank, confirming media reports earlier this week that a deal had been done. “Santander reaches agreement with Warburg Pincus and General Atlantic to grow its global asset management business,” the bank said in a statement today . This is not the first foray by Warbug Pincus into a Santander-owned operation.

UK’s Aberdeen Confirms Commitment To US With Acquisition

Aberdeen Asset Management has completed the deal to buy US-listed Artio Global Investors for a sum of $179. 7 million, based on a price of $2 . 75 per share, following the firm’s announcement in February.

BMO Global Asset Management Makes Senior Hires In Chicago, Las Vegas

BMO Global Asset Management has hired Don Borschel as director of national accounts in Chicago, IL, while Jeff Cole rejoins the firm as a relationship coordinator for BMO Taft-Hartley Services in Las Vegas, NV. Borschel will join the intermediary distribution team, responsible for distributing BMO Global Asset Management investment strategies and BMO Funds to the bank channel and various broker-dealer platforms . Meanwhile, as part of the original team that established BMO’s Taft-Hartley Services business line in 2002, Cole rejoins as a relationship coordi.

CIBC Global Asset Management Names Chief Investment Officer

Canada-based CIBC Global Asset Management has made two senior appointments, including a chief investment officer, to strengthen its portfolio management team. Suzann Pennington has been appointed managing director and CIO, while Stephen Carlin starts as a vice president and senior portfolio manager for Canadian equities . Pennington will oversee all of CGAM’s portfolio management and research efforts, but will remain as head of equities and continue to manage the Canadian all-cap mandate, the firm said.
